Here are the questions to answer for the brief exercise (shouldn't require more than a paragraph or two):
1. Go to the Sanborn digital map of the city you select from the list below
2. Determine whether or not the street pattern follows the railroad right-of-way in direction/angle
3. Locate the railroad depot (or other rail facilities such as roundhouse, shops)
4. Describe the structure from the information provided on the map
5. Judging from the map alone, why might one conclude the town was started as a "railroad town" or not?
Here are the choices of towns:
Cheyenne Newcastle (1896)
Cody (1907)
Laramie Moorcroft (1927)
Powell (1914)
Rawlins Gillette
Greybull (1918) Rock Springs
Sheridan Worland (1912)
Green River Lusk
Thermopolis (1907) Evanston
Douglas (1894) Shoshoni (1918)
Kemmerer (1907) Glenrock
Lander (1907, 1912) Saratoga (1912)
Casper (1894) orrington (1918)
Manville (1919)
