Interesting “coincidence”: From 1918 to 1956, the old Soviet Union operated their prison death-camp system known as the Gulag, exposed by Khrushchev but not really ended by the mid-1960s and now rebuilt under Putin. In contrast, the U. S., in 1965, was creating Head Start and other great anti-poverty programs to lift people up from poverty. Now, the tRump administration is eliminating Head Start, but planning to spend a lot of money building our own Gulag system, handily, getting them built in other countries where prisoners can be sent without legal process. No place in the U.S. is beyond the powers of courts to protect due process (your day in court to defend yourself or tell your side of the story), but like Siberia once served the Russians (“out-of-sight, out-of-mind”) our current aspiring dictator thinks the same can be done in this century like Stalin did it in the early 20th century (“the Golden era” as tRump would call it). Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote of the Soviet Gulag. I think that’s what tRump and Stephen Miller love about the 1950s–not what was going on in our country, but going on in theirs. They were not horrified by Solzhenitsyn’s expose, but inspired by it to copy it in America. But for the courts, they’d be there already–fantasizing about how nobody can tell them they are wrong ever again.
“De-naturalization” is their next step. It will get worse.
